~ Because He is God ~

Think Big

READING FOR WORSHIP GUIDE: II Chronicles 2: 1-6

Text: II Chronicles 2: 1-18

Objective: As we better understand the attributes of God, we can better understand and know how our God relates to us and how we then, can be in a relationship with our God that is pleasing to Him.

1.    Genesis 1: 26-27“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; males and female He created them.”

a.     Some of the attributes of God that belong only to God because they are the ultimate reality (absolute), can not be transmitted or passed on (incommunicable), and essential (constitutional – that make God “God.”)

b.    Because God possesses the attributes God possesses we can be all that God created us to be, as we live out who God is in our lives.

2.    Infinity – Without termination and finitude.

a.     Scripture – II Chronicles 2: 5-6 – God is greater in size than all of creation.  It cannot contain God

b.    Acts 17:28 – “For in Him we live and move and have our being.” – All of creation exists within the space of God’s being.

c.     God cannot be measured and nothing is beyond God.  Nothing is too big for God

d.    If we tried to measure God we would never stop measuring.

                                                 i.      God is greater than anything that exists or could be imagined.

ii.      Therefore, because He is God, THINK BIG!

iii.      No idea, problem or opportunity is too big for our God to handle.

3.    There are things in life that distract us or discourage us from THINKING BIG!

a.     Artificial/imagined limitations and barriers to BIG THINKING!

                                                 i.      Do we believe God is infinite?

1.    We cannot exhaust God’s supply!

2.    Beliefs determine expectations – You will become on the outside what you believe on the inside.

3.    Expectations determine actions.

ii.      II Chronicles 2: 1 & 3 – “Solomon gave orders to build a temple for the Name of the Lord and a royal palace for himself…Solomon sent this message to Hiram king of Tyre: “Send me…”

1.    Solomon believed God had supplied all he needed to complete the assignment he was given.

a.     Everything we need to fulfill God’s assignment is already ours.

b.    It’s in the pew, in your hands, in our possession.

2.    Let your belief in God be more than an idea that you possess.

3.    Let your belief in the Lord Jesus Christ be an idea that possesses you.

4.    Philippians 4: 19 – “And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

5.    What would you try if you knew you couldn’t fail?

a.     You can trust God and expect to succeed.

b.    You will fail at times.  You will make mistakes.

c.     But if you trust God, THINK BIG and keep trying you will maximize the gifts and talents God has placed in you to the honor of God Almighty.

THINK BIG!

b.    Never having seen or recognized BIG THINKING!

                                                 i.      II Chronicles 2: 7 – Solomon asked for help from someone who had been there before.

ii.      Expose yourself to the thinkers who THINK BIG!

1.    Solomon called on Hiram, king of Tyre, who had worked with Solomon’s father, David to build David’s palace. (II Samuel 5: 1-12)

2.    Hiram helped Solomon’s daddy, David to THINK BIG!  Solomon went right back to that same BIG THINKER when he needed help.

3.    “You will earn the average income of your three closest associates.  It matters who you associate with.” (Bob Love, NBA Hall of Fame)

4.    God has assigned you and me to BIGGER THINGS and accomplishing BIGGER THINGS requires associating with BIGGER THINKERS!

THINK BIG!

c.     Wear and tear and being overtaken by the events of life.

                                                 i.      Clouds of monotony, drudgery, delayed outcomes, disappointing setbacks, and unfulfilled expectations can darken the sky of our life and we loose our vision for God’s assignment for our lives – we stop THINKING BIG!

ii.      Nahum 1: 3 – “…clouds are the dust of His feet.”

1.    Remember how near God is during the dark and cloudy days of life. (II Samuel 22: 10)

2.    Nahum’s name means “consolation.”  God sends reminders of His kingdom assignment for you.

iii.      Hebrews 11: 1 – “Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen.” (King James Version)

1.    Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (New International Version)

2.    NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. (Amplified Bible)

3.    Faith knows the sun is shining even though the sky is dark with clouds.

4.    Blue skies are bigger than dark clouds.  And our God is bigger than any problems, monotony, drudgery, delayed outcomes, disappointing setbacks, and unfulfilled expectations.
