Text – Luke 5: 1-3, 10-11

Luke 5: 1-3, 11 – One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[a] the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat…10Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Disciple – a committed and prepared follower of Jesus Christ.

Jesus’ disciple making process

Luke 5: 3a – He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon…

  1. Jesus gets in your boat.

    1. He proves that He has the knowledge and ability to guide your life!

      1. The night before, Simon had come home empty handed.

      2. As a result of doing what Jesus had said, he and his partners had made the biggest catch of their lives

      3. Has He ever gotten in your boat and loaded you with blessings?

      4. If Jesus has ever gotten in your boat; if He’s ever blessed you; then stop right now and give God praise!

    2. He builds trust!

    3. He closes the distance between you and himself

    4. He seeks intimacy with you through making himself present in your circumstances

It’s all about relationship

Luke 5: 3b – and asked him to put out a little from the shore.

  1. Jesus directs you to do something

    1. He makes demands on your life

    2. He establishes a progression
      1. Luke 5: 3b – Jesus asked him to put out a little from the shore
      2. Luke 5: 4 – Jesus said, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
      3. Luke 5: 10b – “Don’t be afraid; follow me into even deeper water and fish for people.”
    3. God has put you on a path of progress that when you look back over your shoulder and see how far you’ve come you understand what the old folk meant when they said, “He’s brought me from a mighty, mighty, mighty, long way!
      1. If He’s brought you a mighty long way, then let’s just join together again in celebration and give God the

Luke 5: 11 – So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

      1. Christ Centered & Others Focused

      2. This is what being “COOKED” is about
