I AM A SPIRIT WHO HAS A SOUL AND I LIVE IN A BODY!

I AM NOT A SOUL

I AM A SPIRIT

I AM NOT A BODY

I AM A SPIRIT

I AM A SPIRIT WHO HAS A SOUL AND I LIVE IN A BODY!

WHAT’S OUR ROLE?

Luke 5: 4-11 – When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets. (REMEMBER TO DREAM!)

6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.  7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.

Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; (NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF GOD) from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Peter and his fishing partners experienced doing something they had never done before – THEY CAUGHT SO MANY FISH THEIR BOATS BEGAN TO SINK! It is clear from the narrative that Jesus facilitated their success. Jesus directed them to “Put out into the deep water, and let down their nets for a catch.” What is understood through the narrative is Jesus’ authority and command over the fish in the Sea of Galilee, causing them to go into the nets.

We said last week that, “God doesn’t bless abundantly because of our goodness. God blesses us out of God’s grace!”

QUESTION – With God facilitating our success, what is our role in doing something we have never experienced before?

WHAT’S OUR ROLE?

Role – a function or part performed especially in a particular operation or process.

  1. PRINCIPLE #1 – Remember How to Dream and Dream!

    1. Luke 5: 5 – Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

    2. Get back to dreaming!

      1. Time, circumstances, and mistakes can cause us to forget how to dream.

        1. Moses made a terrible mistake of killing an Egyptian because he dreamed of his people someday being free from Egyptian oppression.

        2. He fled and spent 40 years living in the desert herding sheep and forgot how to dream.

      2. Peter worked hard all night, gave up and forgot how to dream.

        1. Even though Moses gave up on his dream and resigned himself to a life of sheep herding, God hadn’t given up on Moses.

        2. Even though Peter had stopped dreaming, Jesus knew Peters dream.

          1. He knows yours too!

          2. And He hasn’t given up on you!

      3. Jesus is pouring out His blessings even if you stopped dreaming.

      4. Dreaming simply puts our cup under God’s fountain.

      5. Live the dream!

    3. Process, promise, and passion – Your Dreams Aren’t Lost!

      1. PROCESS: Every fulfilled dream comes about because of dedication to a process. Your dream isn’t lost – you’re a work in process!

      2. PROMISE: Represents “WHY” you’re here on earth.
        1. Get back to your “WHY”.
        2. Because, When the “WHY” is big enough, the “WHAT” becomes doable and the “HOW” makes sense.
        3. Your purpose is tied up in God’s promise for your life.
      3. PASSION: What you sing about, what you cry about, what you dream about
    4. Get back to dreaming!

  2. Principle # 2 – Never Underestimate the Power of God!

    1. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 … Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid,”

    1. DREAM BIG!

      1. No Dream God has given us is as big as God!

      2. So, “Don’t be afraid.”

        1. Don’t be afraid of success.

        2. Don’t be afraid of failure.

        3. Don’t be afraid of not being enough.

          1. I Corinthians 3: 7 – So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

          2. God is enough!

        4. Don’t be afraid of the goodness of God in your life.

          1. Peter was afraid of God’s goodness in his life, but God used Peter to reveal Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God.

          2. Peter was afraid of God’s goodness in his life, but God used Peter to preach a sermon at Pentecost through which 3,000 persons were saved.

      3. So, “Don’t be afraid” Remember How to Dream and Dream!

      4. So, “Don’t be afraid” Never Underestimate the Power of God!

      5. So, “Don’t be afraid” Dream Big!

      6. That’s our role!
