I am not a soul. I am a spirit.
I am not my body. I am a spirit.
I am a spirit, who has a soul, and I live in a body!
John 21: 19b-22 – Then he said to him, “Follow me!”(W)
20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved(X) was following them…21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”
22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return,(Z) what is that to you? You must follow me.”
After being restored by Jesus, these directions were given to Peter by Jesus, “Follow me!” Peter lost sight of the new plan and purpose Jesus had imparted on him and Peter began to “get out of focus” by the distraction of looking on others and not Jesus.
Distraction is the process of diverting the attention of an individual or group from a desired area of focus and thereby blocking or diminishing the accomplishing of desired outcome.
Jesus’ simple response to distraction is: “Follow me!” What is that to you? Stay focused! You must follow me!” What Jesus is telling us today through His words to Peter is:
LET ME CONTROL YOUR MIND. The mind is the most restless, unruly part of mankind. Long after you have learned the discipline of holding your tongue, your thoughts defy your will and set themselves up against Me. Man is the pinnacle of My creation, and the human mind is wondrously complex. I risked all by granting you freedom to think for yourself. This is godlike privilege, forever setting you apart from animals and robots. I made you in My image, precariously close to deity. Though My blood has fully redeemed you, your mind is the last bastion of rebellion. Open yourself to My radiant Presence, letting My Light permeate your thinking. When My Spirit is controlling your mind, you are filled with Life and Peace.

Do example of Spirit of God speaking to the mind (soul) saying, “For you to remain focused, you must follow me. For you to follow me, you must remember:
“Feed my lambs.” (v. 15)
“Take care of my sheep.” (v. 16)
“Feed my sheep.” (v. 17)
Luke 22: 31-33 (see vv. 20-30 for context) – “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked(AF) to sift all of you as wheat (Jesus declares their leadership).(AG)32 But I have prayed for you,(AH) Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”(AI)
33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.
What Jesus said to the twelve, He says to us today! “…when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
There is something Jesus told you before he restored you!
There is an assignment Jesus gave you that was attached to His restoring of your life to something greater than it was before he restored you!
What God gave you is not focused on you but on someone else?
When God made Jesus Christ the center your life and told you to follow the Son, it was so you could focus on others.
“Christ Centered and Others Focused!”
John 21: 22c – You must follow me.
When you follow Jesus, others will follow you to Jesus.
“Do I really want people following me?” (Use example of hungry, thirsty, empty people in a time of famine seeing a well-nourished, refreshed, full person walking down the street.
People are thirsty for the real thing
People are hungry for the real thing
People are empty, searching for the real thing
You do it! You lead them to Me!
I am the Living Water which they can drink and never thirst again!
I am the Bread of Life which they can eat and never hunger again!
I am the Breath of Spirit Life that can fill the emptiness of their lives forever!
