Matthew 4: 17, 23-25 17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis,[g] Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

TODAY’S QUOTE: the Kingdom of God is “God’s people in God’s place under God’s rule.” (Graeme Goldsworthy)

WHAT IS A KINGDOM? (Myles Munroe)

  1. The governing influence of a king over a territory impacting it with the king’s culture, and practices. In a kingdom you dress like the king, eat what the king eats, speak like the king.

  2. Nation of people ruled by a king.

    1. A community of people with a distinct culture.

    2. So when you say you follow Jesus you have no rights.

  3. In a democracy you never worship the leaders.

    1. Only in kingdom is the word lord used.

    2. Lord = adonai in Hebrew; owner or master.

      1. When we say Jesus is my Lord we mean Jesus is my owner.

      2. It is not a religious word but a political word.

      3. Romans 10: 9 – If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. .

        1. Your body is not yours.

        2. You are not your own.

We are examining our individual and collective kingdom assignments through the values, vision, and mission God has given us at Quinn Chapel.

I-94 & I-57

One can travel one lane over from the correct lane and when the separation of the two highways occurs, the wrong direction is taken for the journey. But, when in correct lane when the separation happens the correct direction is taken for the journey.

This idea applies to our church, personal life, profession, marriage, and family. We can be aligned in some areas of our lives and in the church while not being aligned in other areas of our lives or in the operation of the church. We are aligning ourselves with Gods kingdom program, making sure we are in the correct lane for the journey God has us on. Every Sunday morning we gather for worship, we need to make sure we review Gods kingdom plan and recalibrate our direction to insure we are following Gods path for the church and our individual lives.

Acts 26: 13-19 – 13 About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. 14 We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic,[a] ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.

15 Then I asked, Who are you, Lord?

“ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. 16 Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.

19 So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven.

Paul’s vision on the road to Damascus became the captivating force behind his success. The apostle teaches us the power of a vision

VISION – A vision is a clear comprehensive photographof a person or an organization at some point in the future. It provides direction because it describes what the person or organization needs to be like, to be successful within the future.

VISION (optical) – the special sense by which the qualities of an objectconstituting its appearance are perceived through a process in which lightis transformed and transmitted to the brain.

How God Conveys Vision –

God is supernatural and will through supernatural means, give you God’s vision for your life! Holy Spirit is the giver of vision.

  1. Dreams – Jacob at Bethel – Gen. 28: 10-15 – Genesis 28:10-15 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord, and he said: I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.
  2. Visions – Abraham – Genesis 15:1-6 After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward. But Abram said, Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram said, You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir. Then the word of the Lord came to him: This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.He took him outside and said, Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them. Then he said to him, So shall your offspring be.Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
  3. Divine Messengers – Abraham and Sarah – Genesis 18:1-15 The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. He said, If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by. …Where is your wife Sarah?they asked him. There, in the tent,he said. Then one of them said, I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure? Then the Lord said to Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh and say, Will I really have a child, now that I am old?Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, I did not laugh. But he said, Yes, you did laugh.
  4. Laying on of hand – Timothy – 2 Timothy 1:3-7 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
  5. Holy Spirit speaks when we’re in God’s presence; in quiet times, in times of worship and devotion. Genesis 12:1-3 The Lord had said to Abram, Go from your country, your people and your fathers household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
  6. Through teaching of the Scripture – Acts 2:14-21 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. Its only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Vision Brings Victory

Acts 26: 13 & 19 13 About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions 19 So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven

God’s vision for Paul accomplished a number of things (Maxwell Leadership Bible):

  1. It stopped him.

    1. Vision allows us to see ourselves. We see things not as they are, but as we are.

    2. (story of two traveling salesmen asking man what next town was like. He asked how each found the people in the last town. After each replied, even though their assessments were opposite of each other’s, he told them that is how you will find the people of the next town).

    3. Whatever we see in our minds is what we experience. What you see is what you get!

  2. It sent him.

    1. Vision allows us to see others.

    2. We feel compelled to act.

  3. It strengthened him.

    1. Vision enables us to continue despite struggles and lack of resources.

    2. Tough times. Jacob in Gen. 32:1-9. “Lord, you said…”

  4. It stretched him.

    1. Vision gives us conviction to stand,

    2. Confidenceto speak,

    3. Compassion to share.

  5. It satisfied him.

    1. Obedience to vision motivates us to act.

    2. It fulfills us‎.

(A Kingdom Building Assignment!)

  2. A LIGHTHOUSE shining the healing power of Christ glory on those who are wounded, bound, or without hope.

  3. A congregation with full operation of Holy Spirit.

  4. A world-wide distribution center receiving money and other resources, then applying and distributing them to those who are the least of these.

  5. A completely restored and fully operational facility expressing the glory of God.

  6. A congregation that assists other congregations to further the Kingdom of God.
