I am a spirit, who has a soul, and I live in a body.

I am not a soul. I am a spirit.

I am not my body. I am a spirit.

I am a spirit, who has a soul, and I live in a body!

  1. When Jesus appeared to His disciples after the resurrection, it was Peace that He communicated first.

    1. He knew this was their deepest need: to calm their fears and clear their minds.

    2. Jesus also speaks Peace to you, for He knows your anxious thoughts.

    3. Jesus designed you to dwell in Peace all day, every day.

    4. Jesus says to us this Sunday, “Draw near to Me; receive My Peace.”

  2. PEACE – is not the absence of difficulty, failure, times of sadness or disappointment.

    1. Peace is “shalom” –

    2. remaining in communion with Jesus Christ regardless of our circumstances.

  3. Jesus spoke many sources of peace for His disciples to draw from:

    1. HOPE – the phenomenon of grace whereby God takes your hand in your season of darkness!

    2. RESTORATION - is the act of God’s GRACE, whereby one receives back more than has been lost to the point where the final state is greater than the original condition.

    3. FOCUS – “What is that to you? You must follow me.” Focus in your life is the product of remembering and following what Jesus said! There can be no focus without following and no following without remembering.

    4. REMEMBER – Just as Jesus found you when you first met Him, Jesus finds you when you’re in need of restoration. God is not punishing you for something you did wrong!

  4. UNITY

    1. Matthew 28: 16-20 - 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.(P) 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.(Q) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,(R) baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,(S) 20 and teaching(T) them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you(U) always, to the very end of the age.”(V)

    2. The passage of Scripture just read is known as the “Great Commission”.

      1. Before Jesus gives directions to His disciples, He places them all under His authority!

        1. Christ is the head of the church!

        2. They are to be centered on Him.

        3. They are to follow Him.

        4. He is sovereign.

        5. He alone is God

      1. Marriage & Family

      2. Friendships & Romance

      3. Workplace & Church

    2. Jesus then instructs His disciples shortly before He ascended into heaven and left earth.

      1. Each command directs the disciples to focus on others:

        1. go…make disciples of all nations

        2. baptizing them

        3. teaching(T) them

      2. Once again, Christ is calling us to be:

      3. The Great Commission describes the mission of the church

        1. Every church

        2. In every location

        3. In every denomination

      4. For the church to be the church Christ calls us to be there must be unity!

Our Mission Statement

At Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, we Magnify God by developing Christ-like Maturity in God's people, moving them from Membership to Discipleship, preparing them for Ministry to others, and for the Mission of sharing the gospel.

  1. Example of triangle when divided can be divided infinitely while all pointing to the same apex and acme - Jesus Christ!

    1. Every section is different but they all point to the same central point.

    2. In the same way, there can be all sorts of differences in persons in the church, yet, if we are all centered on Christ we will all be moving in the same direction and achieving the same mission – “The Great Commission”!

  1. UNITY

    1. Ephesians 4: 2-6 – Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another(D) in love.(E) Make every effort to keep the unity(F) of the Spirit through the bond of peace.(G) There is one body(H) and one Spirit,(I) just as you were called to one hope when you were called(J)one Lord,(K) one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all,(L) who is over all and through all and in all.(M)

    2. the quality or state of not being multiple: oneness!

      1. I Cor. 12: 12 – Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body,(U) so it is with Christ.

    3. a condition of harmony: accord.

      1. Acts 2: 1When (A)the Day of Pentecost had fully come, (B)they were all [a]with one accord in one place. (NKJV)

    4. the quality or state of being made one: unification!

      1. Unification and unanimity are not the same.

        1. Unanimity means that there is complete agreement

      2. Ecclesiastes 4: 12b –  A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

  2. Unity in the Church in God’s sight is like the anointing of the Holy Spirit. It truly pleases God!

    1. Psalm 133 – How good and pleasant it is
          when God’s people live together(A) in unity!(B)
It is like precious oil poured on the head,(C)
          running down on the beard,
      running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew(D) of Hermon(E)
          were falling on Mount Zion.(F)
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,(G)
          even life forevermore.

  1. We can’t lose!

    1. Deuteronomy 20: 1 –  When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours,(A) do not be afraid(B) of them,(C)because the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with(D) you.

    2. It’s always good to have a battle plan, especially a set of instructions that come straight from the top – the very TOP.

    3. Deuteronomy 20: 4 –  For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you(F) to fight(G) for you against your enemies to give you victory.(H)

  2. We are in the hands of the Great Artist!

    1. Isaiah 64: 8 – Yet you, Lord, are our Father.(T)
We are the clay, you are the potter;(U)
we are all the work of your hand.

    2. Story of English artist, William Wolcott in New York in 1924.

      1. Used ordinary wrapping paper to make two sketches

      2. First sold for $500 and the second sold for $1,000, which was a great sum of money in 1924.

      3. “Nothing is ordinary if you know how to use it.”

      4. We are in the hands of the Great Artist!

  3. God’s power is at work in you!

    1. Ephesians 3: 20 – Now to him who is able(AI) to do immeasurably more than all we ask(AJ)or imagine, according to his power(AK) that is at work within us…

    2. God wants us to release that power because there are things that will not happen on earth until we do so.

      1. Jesus said, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 16: 19)

      2. In other words, what you permit to happen, heaven will permit. What you disallow, heaven will disallow!
